About the GOTS

The Society for Orthopaedic-Traumatological Sports Medicine (GOTS) is the world’s second largest association of sports orthopaedists and sports traumatologists. It is the leading authority in the treatment of sports injuries and thus a guarantee for reliability, competence, experience, expert advice and quality in sports traumatology care.

The GOTS brings together over 1,700 leading sports physicians from the fields of orthopaedics and traumatology in German-speaking countries. In addition to ensuring competent care for patients with sports injuries, the GOTS sets quality standards for their treatment. Knowledge transfer and exchange take place at the annual international GOTS congress.

One of the main focuses of the GOTS is the training of young doctors in orthopaedic and traumatological sports medicine. To this end, the GOTS offers continuing education and training events in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as a scholarship programme in Europe and Asia. In addition, GOTS publishes the journal ‘Sportorthopädie – Sporttraumatologie’ (Sports Orthopaedics – Sports Traumatology) and the GOTS Handbook of Sports Traumatology.

Through its membership of association and Olympic doctors, GOTS has close ties to high-performance medicine. They share their experience and knowledge in the annual intensive course on competition medicine.

With this online presentation, we want to clarify our tasks and goals. In order to expand its leading role in the field of sports orthopaedics and sports traumatology, GOTS will, among other things, draw up treatment recommendations and intensify its public relations work. You are cordially invited to support us in this process.

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Martin Engelhardt
